| Calgary Society For Independant Film |
In 1978, twelve local filmmakers and artists collaborated to form the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers in response to a growing interest in film production and need for equipment and resources. The CSIF was created as a direct result of an initiative by the Canada Council to establish a more effective means of distributing arts funding to film artists throughout the country. The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists & Allied Crafts of the United States, its Territories and Canada (I.A.T.S.E) has so expanded down through the years that its name has become largely symbolic rather than descriptive of the full scope of its wide-ranging activities. Gradually, the stage employees and movie operators have been joined by a great variety of other craftspeople in the numerous branches of the entertainment industry, including television; all banding together to achieve the maximum of unified strength. The organization is best known as the I.A.T.S.E however, the members often speak of it as just the I.A.. Now representing over 107,000 members in North America, the IA can best be described as the union of the people behind the scenes in the manifold media of show business. |
