Thoughts for the Day, or "The Mind Less Travelled"... Part 1
This blog, I thought I’d share with you some random thoughts that occurred today.
Thought #1...
I want to meet the people who wrote the help system for Visual Studio 2005 and punch them in their stupid, stupid faces. It's like trying to learn biology by reading a chemistry book where the index doesn't match what's on the page to which it points. It's the only help system I've seen that responds to searches like "How do I make a dialog box with C++" with an overtly succint article about how the "Submit" button sends data from a web page application written with visual basic.
Thought #2...
Cockroaches have little hairs that are sensitive to air motion positioned on their behinds. They use it to detect when a toad tongue is about to hit them, which strikes me as an odd evolutionary advantage because I bet cockroaches secretly LIKE rimjobs.
Thought #3...
There's an old joke, "Boycott shampoo -- demand real poo" which is pretty funny but I'll bet real poo has way more nutrient rich proteins than your run of the mill head & shoulders.
Thought #4...
In 1972, Delaware finally abolished flogging as a form of legal punishment. I don't think this was a good idea. Flogging would probably teach a lot of people a pretty valuable lesson and not only that, you could charge a nominal fee to allow a citizen to conduct the flogging. There'd certainly be plenty of takers, and that translates to some big bucks in the state coffers!
Thought #5...
In the 1700s, Philip (5th Earl of Pembroke) wrote in his will "I give nothing to my Lord Saye, and I make him this legacy willingly because I know that he will faithfully distribute it to the poor. I give to the Lieutenant-General Cromwell one of my words which he must want, seeing that he hath never kept any of his own." We need MORE people like this.
Thought #6...
In 2003 Linda Tripp won a $595,000 settlement against the Pentagon for violating her privacy after they leaked details of her life to the media. This was 5 years after Tripp gave out secretly recorded phone conversations she had with Monica Lewinsky.
We need LESS people like this.
Thought #7...
C&D Technologies produces the 78253 series transformer, a component I use for work. It so happens this is the zip code for San Antonio, and an internet search for the 78253 turns up, as a #1 match, a list of 16 registered sex offenders living there which my web browser is more than happy to show me and yet, a forum message containing a recipe for homemade day gecko food is blocked as "Pornographic material." It also
dislikes dictionary entries on the Morello cherry, the Phatass website and pictorials on building homemade digital clocks. Every other day I toy with the idea of asking the developers of Astaro, apparently one of the most expensive and powerful filtering programs in existence, if it would allow me to read pages on homemade clocks if they were named "homemade child molester clocks." Mind you, I wouldn’t want *THAT* novelty clock in my dining room.
Thought #8...
Women really seem to dislike everything related to Star Trek. I wonder if it's because the Star Trek franchise has gotten ratings-smart and only casts slender hotties, and a bunch of them at that. Maybe women see really hot smart go-getter women in form fitting outfits showing the universe who's boss, and feel self-conscious. Then they just badmouth how infeasible it is to have spaceships and wibbly things in space.
Also, there was a little girl on Star Trek Voyager that looks like InfernoRaptor. I wonder if she knows that.
Thought #9...
Shakespeare said “I wasted time, and now doth time waste me.” Kind of makes me hope that all those aliens I wasted in Halo don’t hold a grudge.Thought #10...
There’s a man in Calgary who sells connectors; his name is Stephen J. Harper. I sure hope he appreciates how much effort it takes not to make jokes about this, and I secretly want him to try issuing orders to annex Alaska just to see if the troops will fall for it.
OK, that’s enough random thoughts for one day. :) Peace, Y’all. :)
